My Recent Test Results

June 20, 2018

Happy Summer to all of you!  It's been a fast and furious start to the summer for our family and my kids constantly have some place they need to be which keeps me running.  A few weeks ago, my husband and I flew to California to get my much-awaited test results so I wanted to give you all a quick update.

Many of you have asked who my doctor is and I chose to work with the California Center for Functional Medicine (Chris Kresser's Clinic).  I looked at several doctors who work within the clinic and chose Dr. Amy Nett and felt she would be the best fit for me.  After spending weeks getting all of my tests done, they were all sent off and I had to just sit and wait for my appointment which felt like forever.

We flew to San Francisco on Memorial Day and met with Dr. Nett the next day.  Right off the bat, I knew she was the right doctor.  She spent over an hour and a half with us going over every test result in detail and an extensive treatment plan customized for my issues.  She answered a ton of questions and made my husband and I feel so at ease.  She told me "I understand you feel like the healthiest, sickest person you know"...yep, she got me.  A few of my issues that showed up are parasites, SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth), hormones out of normal range, high cortisol levels (too much stress), high level of arsenic and other toxins and my body is not excreting toxins but is absorbing them.  It was hard to hear some of her stress levels are through the roof and I basically need to chill out, all of my favorite vegetables are the worst things I can be eating right now, and all sugar, including wine, need to be limited for the time being.  AAAGGHHH!!

On a positive note, all of these issues are not serious and she was positive that, over time, they can be treated.  We decided to go with an herbal anti-microbial protocol in lieu of using antibiotics.  Her belief is that an herbal protocol is more effective long term.  She said it could take months to over a year to fully heal my gut but I'm up for the challenge.  I've been sick for so long that another year is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.  She also said I can workout as much as I want as long as I feel good.  Her belief is if exercise brings you happiness, do it!  Another reason I love her!

Now on to the healing process...I'm on a Low FODMAP/SIBO diet which really stinks but, hopefully, is only temporary, I have to try to sleep more, meditate, limit sugar, and take about a million supplements throughout the day!  I've had several people ask me what supplements I'm taking so I decided to list them out here in hopes it will help someone.

PLEASE!  If you have parasites or SIBO, do not take these supplements without being under a doctor's supervision.  Everyone's body is different and she specifically put this protocol together based on my issues.  But feel free to ask your doctor about any of these...

  • InterFase Plus-Digestive enzyme

  • Super Aloe-Helps with constipation (sorry for the TMI)

  • NAC (N-Acetyl-I-Cysteine)-Supports detoxification

  • Meriva-Helps lower inflammation

  • Magnesium Glycinate-Optimizes nutrient levels & hormone balance

  • Molybdenum-Optimize nutrient levels

  • ATP Fuel-Helps to repair cell membranes

  • B-Complex-Nutrient support

  • GI Synergy-supports the intestinal immune system

  • Lauricidin-Helps to balance the GI microbiome

  • MegaSpore Biotic-Probiotic

Basically, I'm taking some kind of supplement every few hours which is a lot to keep up with but after a few days, it was no big deal.  It's now been 3 weeks on the new diet and I'm no longer craving avocado, brussel sprouts and broccoli but hope to reintroduce them at some point.

Now the million dollar question...Am I Feeling Better?

Overall, yes, I'm feeling improvement.  I still have swelling everyday but not as severe or as frequent.  My energy levels in the last week have greatly improved which is awesome but I have horrible insomnia...I seriously cannot go to sleep at night which is miserable.  The severe stomach pain has improved and I can honestly see improvement in my fibromyalgia pain which is such a relief!  In only 3 weeks, I can see improvement so I'm excited for what's to come in the next few months.

That's about it for my update.  I will do my best to continue to update all of you and, as always, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my doctor or healing protocol.
